Piggy made from PRECIOSA Twin™ seed beads

Preciosa Ornela presents further inspiration for working with the unique Czech PRECIOSA Twin™ two-hole seed bead. When creating the small pig using seed beads from the PRECIOSA Traditional Czech Beads™ brand, you can try out the excellent options for putting together a self-standing three-dimensional shape.  You can then use this experience for making your own designs of other animals. We wish you many creative ideas when working with all types of Czech beads and seed beads :o).

Materials & Tools

Other material & tools

0.35 mm silver binding wire; a 0.20 mm nylon line, a thin needle, flat nose pliers (for flattening the end of the nylon line before threading it onto the needle), snipping pliers

Procedure

Step 1

Sew the central part of the pig’s body first. String 48x PRECIOSA Twin™ seed beads onto the line and tie off the line. Alternately tilt the T to the right and the left (zip). Pass the line through the second hole of the T which is nearest to the knot. Add new T seed beads into the gaps. After completing the entire row at the connecting T, thread the line back through to the second row. Repeat this 10x (a total of 10 rows). The line can be sewn in.

Step 2

The procedure for sewing the head and the rear end of the pig is the same. Tie 8x T together. Thread the line through the second hole of the T and sew in 1 new in the second row between the neighbouring T. In the third row, sew in 2x T into the gaps. Sew 1x T into the gaps in the fourth row. In the fifth row, sew 1x T 3x into the gaps and 2x T in the fourth row. Continue in this way around the entire circumference. Add 1x T in the sixth row. The seventh row forms the outer side from the middle of the body. Sew the protruding T into the gaps, 4x1x T, and after 2x T in the fifth gap. The line can be sewn into the rear section.
It will be useful for attaching the ears in the head.

Step 3

Before definitively sewing on the body, place the tail on the rear section. Cut off about 10 cm of binding wire. Fold the wire in half and string the R10 onto it. String 8x T onto both halves of the wire. Pass it through the opening and string a T on one end. Twist both ends of the wire and shorten it to the required length. Then shape the tail. Sew the eyes crosswise onto the head in the fourth row between two T (from the lower hole to the upper one). There are 6x T between the eyes. 2x T are added in the fifth row; they should be in the middle of the pig’s head.

Step 4

The ears are made from two triangles sewn from 6x T placed together so that the outer T forms a small tree. Continue according to the illustration. Sew the ears on from the sixth row by the head (the edge) up to the third row by the body (the middle). There is 1x T from the sixth row of the head and 2x T from the first row of the body between them.

Step 5

The feet are made from 6x T. String 3x T and also thread the line through the second hole of the third one, add another T and thread the line through the second hole of the fourth T. Add the new T and thread the line through the second hole. Thread the line through the second hole of the second T and the fifth T. Thread the line into the second hole of the T from the body and tie off the line and then sew it in. Sew it to the third row in the body counted from the head and to the second counted from the bottom. There are 2x T free from the appropriate row between the feet. Turn all of the four feet in the same way. Sewing on the ears and the legs is very tricky. If you want a snout, try sewing on a button, preferably a glass one.
